Tea Tree Therapeutic Essential Oil

Tea Tree Therapeutic Essential Oil is a well-known antibacterial agent and a commonly used natural remedy for acne.

Tea Tree Aroma Oil leaves are the source of tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia). It grows in the marshy coast of southeast Australia.

Sailors who brewed nutmeg-scented tea from the tree’s leaves in the eighteenth century gave the plant its name. Tea tree Aroma oil contains compounds that may destroy bacteria, fungi, and mites as well as lessen allergic skin reactions by reducing swelling.

Tea tree oil is used to treat athlete’s foot, toenail fungus, and acne. There isn’t any solid scientific evidence to back up its other uses, which include treating dandruff, lice, foul breath, and other ailments.

The common tea plant that is used to manufacture black and green teas is unrelated to the tea tree, so be careful not to mistake the two.

How To Use Tea Tree Therapeutic Essential Oil

Dilute 5 ml of Tea Tree Therapeutic Essential Oil in 100 ml of carrier oil of your choice for using on your skin.

Acne. For treating acne, 5% tea tree oil gel seems to be just as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide gel. Although Tea Tree Therapeutic Essential Oil  appears to be less irritating to the face, it may act more slowly than benzoyl peroxide. Applying tea tree oil twice day for 45 days can lessen the severity of acne.

Fungal toenails (onychomycosis). In 1 out of 5 people who try it, applying 100% tea tree oil solution to the skin twice daily for six months will cure fungal toenail infections. After 3-6 months, it can also improve symptoms and the look of the nails in 2 out of 3 persons. It appears to function similarly to clotrimazole 1% solution taken twice daily. However, lesser levels of tea tree oil do not appear to Athlete’s foot (Tinea pedis).

Applying a tea tree oil 10% cream works about as well as tolnaftate 1% cream for improving symptoms of athlete’s foot. But the tea tree oil cream doesn’t seem to cure the infection. Applying a stronger tea tree Aroma  oil solution (25% or 50%) can help to clear up the infection in about half of people who try it for 4 weeks. But this higher concentration doesn’t work as well as standard treatments, such as clotrimazole or terbinafine.
There is interest in using tea tree oil for a number of other purposes, but there isn’t enough reliable information to say whether it might be helpful.
